Here is an article from Joystiq talking about how Bungie reset the credits and ranks on about 15,000 accounts where "an exploit that allowed players to complete a Challenge 20+ times via intentional network manipulation (i.e., disconnects.)" was involved. Game balance is so important that they're going to lengths to make sure this stuff doesn't happen, and they're punishing anyone who's done it.
