Video game stereotypes

In chapter 6, they talk about the perceive perceptions of video games. Some of the beliefs of video games are that they are unsophisticated form of entertainment especially compared to books and movies. They see it as a distraction as there is nothing to learn from it. There are also negative feelings on video games as well. Researchers, politicians, and other people believe that playing them causes obesity, laziness, and increased aggression. The issues about this is that there are different perspectives when comes to video games. People who critique games are not necessarily from the gamer group. On the other side, the ones who usually support video games are part of the gaming community or actively play games. There is a lot of bias when it comes into the discussion of video games. It is an inside/outside way of thinking on who is right.
Growing up, I notice that there was a stigma on video games. Video games were considered for certain types of people like nerds and geeks. Also, going to racial terms, games were associated with members of the Asian community. However, in my mind, it has somewhat change. There are many more people who are willing to play games. From the sales, there are millions who participate in some sort of game which could casual or hardcore. As with one of our discussions, we talked about gamers who participated in e-sports. Even though they make a living by playing video games, these competitors were once athletes that could not continue to the higher level of sports. There were also people in the class who were athletes in some way.
